The purpose of the Keller Graduate School of Management (KGSM) initiative is to unleash the potential in human performance by teaching and training students, faculty, and staff in a strengths-based approach that uncovers, develops, and seeks pragmatic and specific applications to express their innate talents. Through the alignment of strength tasks, academics, relationships, and processes, students, faculty, and staff will perform at a level of excellence, increased motivation and persistence, and produce high quality outcomes. Strengths are infused throughout the program beginning with student orientation through to their final capstone project, and culminate with graduates fully prepared to meet the demands of a competitive marketplace.

Integrating Strengths education into difficult technical courses can be a challenge. This presentation describes a strengths-based curriculum and how the curriculum was implemented in a complex managerial accounting course. The presentation describes the curriculum's impact on student satisfaction with project team work, and their reaction to the integration of strengths concepts. Participants review strengths-based classroom exercises and assignments that can be adapted to specific courses, evaluate examples of student work, and analyze survey data showing gains in student satisfaction with team project work.

Virginia Tech is using StrengthsQuest in many ways to engage students and achieve our stated learning aspirations for all students. In this session, staff members from the Virginia Tech Student Conduct Office will review how they have successfully implemented StrengthsQuest as a reflective and creative sanction. This sanction has helped the staff reframe conduct meetings into strengths conversations. By sharing materials used with the sanction, including feedback from student participants and staff who conduct the reflective strengths conversations, the presenters will discuss ways strengths can change the paradigm of student conduct.

It's possible that not everyone will jump on board a strengths initiative from the start. Attend this session to learn about the common resistance messages that strengths educators have faced on their campus. Understanding and preparing for resistance will improve your confidence if you find yourself in a challenging conversation. You'll leave the session armed with a strategy and language that will help you respond if you face opposition in your quest to bring strengths to your campus.

by Grant Anderson from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities
Housing & Residential Life at the University of Minnesota has been using a strengths-based approach with our
professional and student staff for three years. This past year, the University of Minnesota provided strengths to all incoming first-year students, which makes up 80% of our on-campus population. To capitalize on the widely available strengths tool, we developed a strength-based coaching session to help our 150 Community Advisors successfully use strengths in educating and serving students in the residential environment. This session will provide an overview of the training model that was used and lessons learned so far.
